Mastering Depth: Techniques for Bringing Your Sketches to Life
Sunday, July 13, 2025 from 9am to 12 noon
Location: Downtown Portland, OR
Instructor: Rita Sabler
One of the common self-critiques coming from sketchers is that they don’t know what elements to include in their drawing and that the end result looks flat despite a lot of effort. In this session, we will address both of these issues by learning to show elements that convey depth and dimension. We’ll focus on what to include and what to leave out when you are designing your sketch. How to think about color, relative scale, and picture planes creating a natural sense of depth that pulls the viewer into your artwork. We will experiment with distance cues to discover ways to bring drawings to life. This session will feature hands-on exercises to practice each point in isolation.
