A Sketch vs. a Story: Bringing Storytelling into Your Drawings

$55.00

Sunday, September 20, 2026 from 9am to 12pm
Location: Downtown Portland

Often, a sketch begins simply—by finding a comfortable place to sit and observe. As we draw, we start to notice details that might otherwise go unseen. But with time and attention, deeper questions begin to surface: What is this? Why is it here? What’s happening? What came before this moment?

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to move beyond observation and into storytelling. By approaching your subject with the mindset of an artist-reporter, rather than just a sketcher, you’ll learn to uncover the narrative within what you see. Through guided exercises, we’ll practice ways to look for meaning in the drawings—transforming them from simple sketches into compelling visual stories.
